First of all, you must register your username and create a password (much like you did for this message board). You may even wish to use the same username and password for convenience. (Please be aware, however, that the Gallery does not accept a username with a space in it the way this board does. For example: here I can be John Doe, but in the gallery I must be JohnDoe.)

To create your own photo album, click on "new album". You are now the administrator of your album and you can set who can see it, etc. as well as how it looks! If you wish to have both public and private albums, make the public one first, then make the private ones as sub-albums. You can have one main (top level) album and create sub-albums within that one, and/or nest more sub-albums within the sub-albums. BUT PLEASE create only ONE top level album. If everyone created a bunch of top level albums, it could get way too crowded on the first page, and I would be forced to delete all but one of them.

To post  pictures in the album, follow the promts when you first create the album, or click the 'down arrow button' beside the words, "album actions". Find and click on "add photos". You will be presented with a form to find the pictures on your computer. Select the pictures you wish to upload. (You can add captions for each selection, or do that later. You can also select a watermark at this time or later.) Click "Upload now" and wait. You will be presented with a list of results. Click "dismiss" and enjoy your pictures!

You can rename the titles and general descriptions from the properties menu item. There is also the option to rename the album and you can do this when you first create the album if you want, but that changes the actual filename of the album, and any links you give out before the change will become dead links after the name change! Be warned! Rename the album with caution!

To create a sub-album, first click the "highlight" photo (the one representing your album) or the album title, so that you are taken within the album that you wish to create a sub-album in. Then click the 'down arrow button' beside the words, "album actions", and find and click on "new nested album". The rest is the same as for the first album you made.

You can link to your pictures from this message board:
Each album and individual photo has its own URL, so you can just view your picture or album in Gallery, and copy the URL from your browser's address bar, then paste it into your message on this message board or any other web page.

Gallery supports short URLs, so when I linked to my examples, they opened gallery to the appropriate picture using the short URL. If you try to embed a picture in this bulletin board using the short URL, this will not work, because it is not a complete URL. Only Gallery can find the picture with the shortened URL, not this bulletin board. To embed a photo in this board, you must use the full path (URL). BUT... embeding a photo could (depending on the photo size) stretch the bulletin board so that everyone must scroll left and right to read it (forever more). That is a pain and should be avoided. Best to just use a link to Gallery.

Pictures uploaded to Gallery are automatically resized to save space on the hard drive.

To use the Photo Gallery search function, just type in your search term and tap the "enter" key on your keyboard.

The search is not case sensitive and will search for all instances. For example: If I searched for John, I would get John's albums, any comments John added to the albums of others, as well as anything from (say) Olivia Newton John.

The above instructions are from the old software, but the new is very similar.
If you click on the ADDITIONAL OPTIONS... link when making a new posting, you will see that in this new software, you can actually attach files directly into the post. This would be an alternative to using the photo gallery software. However, attaching files to a post is severely limited as to the number and size of attachments. You have much greater abilities with the photo gallery software.
