It costs me about $5 in gas to travel from the Tsawwassen ferry terminal to the northern part of Richmond and back, so why does it cost $6.50 to do the same return trip using public transit?

I need a vehicle to get to work and back because there is no public transit available for all my shift times. So I have to have a car. I have to pay the maintenance and insurance anyway. But... in an effort to go green, I could use public transit at other times. If I wanted to get to Richmond from my home, I would need to take 2 busses, sit in the rain and snow for up to half an hour at Ladner loop, and wait and walk at either end. Plus... I get to throw away an extra dollar fifty! How on earth do the powers to be expect to get people out of their cars?Huh

There is something seriously wrong when it costs more to ride public transit than to take a private vehicle! On top of that, each homeowner must pay a transit levy on their property taxes! In a poor little country like Greece, they subsidized the busses and made them free during rush hour in order to promote the use of public transit. Now that is what I call being serious about reducing traffic!  Here, they talk the talk, but they don't walk the walk. Instead they keep raising the cost of public transit for what? So that a bloated bureaucracy can legally steal our hard earned money? All that money is going somewhere, and I don't see it being spent wisely or for the benefit of the public. Can we trim the fat on Translink? Perhaps Canadians are just too passive and everyone knows it; that's why we keep getting walked on! Do you think it is time we collectively raise our voices?

Surprise! Nope! I'm not upset!

Why would I be? That's great! Public transportation should be cheap.

It is only here that things are haywire! We pay a very heavy tax on our automotive fuels in order to pay for maintenance of our roads, yet where does that money go? We pay a transit levy on our property taxes! Where does THAT money go? Then we pay such outrageous fares to actually ride a bus! Yesterday, I actually rode a bus for the first time in years, and the money counter said I inserted $1.23 when I put in $6.50 :!:  I had to argue with the bus driver that his machine was broken! What an experience for a first impression! Considering what we pay in taxes, our public transit should be free to use. That will get some folks out of their cars and help lessen pollution! The way these "gangsters" are legally robbing us surely won't get drivers out of their cars.
